Meet Your Host: Rebecca Covin
I was introduced to the concept of ecstatic dance by a dear friend in 2020 at a weekend festival. Previously, I had never been much of a dancer. The idea of memorizing and repeating steps didn’t really appeal to me. When I witnessed these ecstatic dancers fully in their element, moving how they please without a care of what others thought of them and clearly not judging the way others were moving, I was intrigued. In this space, I felt comfortable enough to let go and fully be in my body instead of stuck in my head. Afterward, I felt so rejuvenated and refreshed instead of drained like previous attempts at memorized dances. My life was changed.
Upon returning to the Atlanta region, I immediately began searching for an ecstatic dance community. I discovered Ecstatic Dance Atlanta which became my first dance community. Almost a year into dancing with them, they announced that they would soon be closing their doors. Another member told me about Atlanta based Sol Dance and after one dance experience with them, I knew this would be my new dance community.
I volunteered with Sol Dance for about a year before being recommended for a new management position that was opening up. All of this very synchronistically aligned and allowing me to dedicate myself further to my passion – ecstatic dance. I have been the manager for Sol Dance for almost a year and have truly thrived in this role serving my community. I now want to bring this incredibly healing practice back to my local city of LaGrange. I am incredibly honored to bring to you Ecstatic Dance LaGrange! Come dance, be free, & heal with us!
