Stitch and Soothe: Knitting for Calm and Connection
Stitch and Soothe is a four-week therapeutic program designed to help participants manage anxiety and enhance mental well-being through the calming practice of knitting. Led by Holly Roberts, APC, with The Center For Mindful Exploration, this workshop combines creative expression with proven anxiety management techniques in a supportive and interactive group setting.
Each week, participants will learn a new knitting technique while integrating anxiety management principles such as deep breathing, mindfulness, and cognitive reframing. Research has shown that the rhythmic motion of knitting helps promote relaxation by lowering heart rate and blood pressure, while fostering a sense of accomplishment and emotional resilience. The repetitive actions involved in knitting allow participants to remain focused and in the present moment, offering a powerful tool for managing stress and reducing anxiety.
Throughout the four weeks, Holly will guide participants through both the art of knitting and the practice of anxiety management, creating a balanced experience that cultivates relaxation, mindfulness, and emotional well-being. In addition to the therapeutic benefits of knitting, participants will gain valuable coping strategies that they can apply in daily life to manage anxiety effectively.
The group setting offers a sense of community, where individuals can connect, share their progress, and support each other on their journey to better mental health. Whether you’re new to knitting or an experienced crafter, this group will provide both the tools and the space to improve your emotional well-being while enjoying the creative process.
