Join Amy Jackson’s workshop, Exploring Joyful Energy and Uplifting Rhythms! Enjoy a hands-on experience using authentic West African drums called djembes, that will be provided, to have fun! Come feel how these wonderful drums bring joy, community connection, health, and wellness! Amy will introduce good technique, basic sounds for the djembe, fun warmups, a traditional West African rhythm, songs, splashes of history and culture, and always a surprise or two sprinkled in. Amy believes everyone can drum – if you can say it, you can play it!
Amy Jackson is the director DrumRise in Atlanta, Ga and a Certified Instructor of Mamady Keita’s International School Tam Tam Mandingue Djembe Academy and Associate Instructor of TTMWS.
A drummer since age 9 and student of the djembe since 2001. She has been studying and teaching the music for over 20 years and trained and studied closely with Grandmaster Djembefola Mamady Keita. She has also trained in Drum circle facilitation, TaKeTiNa rhythm programs, and therapeutic drumming, both for youth and adults. Her work has taken her to senior facilities, schools, corporate and private groups, and special events.
She performs and is the musical director with two high energy percussion ensembles in and around Atlanta, Conundrums (www.conundrums.org) and The Chattahoochee Rhythm Keepers in LaGrange, Ga. She also sits in with a couple of rock n’roll bands on occasion.
Her mission is to connect people together, bridge gaps between cultures, and bring smiles and laughter to people’s lives by using the djembe as a tool to bring joy!
